Sentences (Senior secondary Level)


→ A Group of Words.
→Meaningful.

A Group of words that makes a complete Sense is called Sentence.

E.g. Why you at the for in [×]
       I am good at English [✓]

Types of Sentences

Simple              Compound          Complex

Simple Sentences are further divided into 5 sub-types. They are 

1. Assertives- Simple Statement and end with a full Stop. They are further divided into Affirmative and Negative.
         a) Affirmative → Positive Statement.
         b) Negative → Negative Statement.

E.g. I am Happy (Affirmative)
        He is not a good boy (Negative).

2. Interrogative- A Question Statement and end with a Question mark. They are further divided into two parts as Single Interrogatives (SI) and Double interrogatives(DI).
  
SI- Starts with Helping Verb.
      Answers in yes/No.

DI- Starts with Wh- family.
      Answers in some words.

E.g How are you ? (DI) 
        Are you okay? (SI) 

3. Exclamatory - feeling showing statements and end with an exclamation mark. They are further divided into two parts as Interjection Exclamatory(IE) and Wh- Exclamatory sentences(WE).

IE- Forms with the help of interjection.
      E.g Hurrah! I win the match.

WE- Forms with help of Wh-family.
       E.g. What a beautiful girl you are!

4. Imperative - Show order, Advices and request. They are further divided into three parts as Command, Request and Suggestions.

Command - Order e.g Shut the door. 
Request- Please, give me your cup.
Suggestions- You should follow your elders.

5. Optative- Show wish and blessings. They also contain exclamation mark at the end. 
     They are further divided into two parts as Desire and Blessings.

Desire- I wish you were mine! 
Blessings- May you live long!

Notes to Remember.......

1. _____!____________ → Exclamatory.
2. Wh _____________! → Exclamatory.
3. May ____________! → Optative.
4. Happy _________! → Optative.

Optative always contains exclamation mark at the end of a sentence where Exclamatory both. You can easily understand the pattern by the following ways given above.

Notes to Remember.............

1. Do not ______________ → Imperative.
2. ______ should_______ → Imperative.
3. Please _____________ → Imperative.
4. Mv+ obj/pre → Imperative (Syn).

Syntatic Functions

INTRODUCTION →When a Subject agrees with its verb. → It can only be expressed in the form of grammatical numericals. i.e. Singular(One in Quantity) and Plural(More in Quantity).  SYNTATICAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SUBJECT AND VERB → Singular Subject with Singular Verb  → Plural Subject with Plural Verb  → Rules of adding 's' is different, according to the condition of sentence. SOME SYNTATIC RULES 1) Rule of Articles ® Use of double articles with double Subjects in a Sentence with conjunction 'And' → Plural Verb. E.g. The Captain and The Falcon were good Friends. ® Use of Single Article with Double Subjects taking that Singular Article common → Singular Verb. E.g. The Falcon and Captain America is very Powerful. 2) Rule of 'And' ® If Two proper Nouns are together connect with conjunction 'And', then it is manifestly  a plural verb acting over there. E.g.
