Participle Use In Simple Sentence


NOTES

Simple Sentences
: Those sentences that contains only subject with finite verb.

Use of Participle: Words characterized as both verbs and Adjective.

Participles: 

1) Present Participle= mv¹ +ing 
2) Past Participle= mv³
3) Perfect Participle= having+ mv³

Synthesis Rules For Participles: Only with same subjects.

1) is/am/are/was/were = Being 
2) Vb² → Vb¹ = Present Participle 
3) V² not immediately after Vb¹= Perfect Participle 
4) Vb as Adjective= Past Participle 


EXERCISE 1

Combine these sentences into one simple sentence 

1. Croner saw his friend. He came out to welcome him. 
2. Mickey found the purse. The purse was lost. 
3. Sam wrote a letter. He gave it to his servant. 
4. Bruce saw the danger. He returned. 
5. He raised his gun. He took aim. He shot the tiger. 
6. Shylock lost his pen. He searched for it. 
7. We met a man. He was carrying a load of wood. 
8. Soma was tired of reading. She lay down in the bed. 
9. The magician took pity on the mouse. He turned it into a man. 
10. The Robbers jumped up. They ran away.

EXERCISE 2

Combine these sentences into one simple sentence 

1. Ron lost his book. He searched for it.
2. He raised his gun. He took aim. He shot the tiger.
3. Lakhan finished his work. He went to the hospital.
4. Bilbo drew his sword. He attacked his enemy.
5. Gandalf was strolling on the road. He had a stick in his hand.
6. Soma witnessed the show. She saw three dolls. The dolls were talking in a strange language.
7. A Fox saw some grapes. They were hanging from a vine.
8. A dinosaur was hungry. He killed another dinosaur. The another dinosaur was strong.
9. Ben heard about his mother's illness. He at once wrote to me.
10. The thief broke the lock. He stole the money. He fled away.

EXERCISE 3 (PC. WREN AND MARTIN) 

Combine these sentences into one simple sentence 

1. He ran at top speed. He got out of breath.
2. He came to me. He wanted leave. He was ill.
3. I heard Abdul. He was shouting very loudly. He was calling me.
4. He hurt his foot. He stopped.
5. He was unwilling to go any further. He returned home.
6. I received no answer. I knocked a second time.
7. He felt tired. He laid his work aside.
8. He went straight. He saw Hari on the path.
9. The hunter took up his gun. He went out to shoot the lion.
10. He was overpowered. He surrendered.

Syntatic Functions

INTRODUCTION →When a Subject agrees with its verb. → It can only be expressed in the form of grammatical numericals. i.e. Singular(One in Quantity) and Plural(More in Quantity).  SYNTATICAL RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SUBJECT AND VERB → Singular Subject with Singular Verb  → Plural Subject with Plural Verb  → Rules of adding 's' is different, according to the condition of sentence. SOME SYNTATIC RULES 1) Rule of Articles ® Use of double articles with double Subjects in a Sentence with conjunction 'And' → Plural Verb. E.g. The Captain and The Falcon were good Friends. ® Use of Single Article with Double Subjects taking that Singular Article common → Singular Verb. E.g. The Falcon and Captain America is very Powerful. 2) Rule of 'And' ® If Two proper Nouns are together connect with conjunction 'And', then it is manifestly  a plural verb acting over there. E.g. Shero and Soma are playing together with Ris...
